The short answer
This website sets no cookies. It shows no consent banner, because nothing on it needs your consent. It carries no advertising or social media plugins, and it does not follow you across other sites.
One setting is stored on your device, and it is in the table below. The switch on this page writes it, and the statistics script reads it. On every page the statistics script also reads a few settings of your browser: screen size, language, and the Do Not Track signal. The script itself stores nothing.
What this site uses
The table lists everything this site stores on your device and every other server it contacts.
| Name | Purpose | Duration | Category |
|---|---|---|---|
umami.disabled | Remembers that you turned visit counting off: the statistics script reads this setting and counts nothing. | Until you turn counting back on or clear this site's data | Necessary |
/s/api/send | Counts page views and a few actions for the visit statistics, with no cookie and no IP address kept. | Nothing on your device; the statistics are kept for 26 months | Statistics |
forms.giaccardi.com | Receives the contact form when you press Send, so we can answer you. | Nothing on your device; your message is kept as the privacy policy says | Necessary |
An automated test checks this table against every new build of the site. It fails when a page or the contact form stores something, or contacts another server, that the table does not list.
Visit statistics
We count visits with Umami, which is installed on the same server as this website, in the European Union. It loads from this site's own address. It sets no cookie and stores nothing on your device.
It does not keep your IP address. It uses it, with your browser's details, to work out the country, region, and city, and the day's visit key. Then it discards the address. That key changes every day, so your visits cannot be linked from one day to the next, or across other websites.
The statistics are kept for 26 months and shared with no one. The privacy policy lists what they record.
Statistics of this kind need no consent under the guidelines on cookies of the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali, of June 10, 2021. You can still switch them off below.
Your choices
You can stop this browser from being counted. When you turn the switch off, it stores one setting on this device, umami.disabled, and the statistics script sends nothing. When you turn it back on, the setting is removed.
The choice holds for this browser on this device. Clearing the site's data removes it, and counting starts again.
If your browser sends Do Not Track, your visits are already left out, whatever the switch shows.
The switch needs JavaScript. Without JavaScript the statistics script does not run either, so nothing is counted.
Your browser sends Do Not Track, so your visits are already left out.
Sites we link to
Some links take you to other websites: our LinkedIn and YouTube pages, bcms.ai, Google Maps from the contacts page, and the sources our articles cite. Those sites set their own cookies under their own policies, once you open them.
Old addresses of our previous website lead to its archive at wp.theedgecompany.net, hosted by one.com, which keeps its own cookie notice.
Without JavaScript, the contact form opens on forms.giaccardi.com, our form service. That page sets no cookie.
