Rimini 13/3/23 – THE EDGE COMPANY today announced it has  joined the NVIDIA Metropolis program NVIDIA Metropolis nurtures a rich ecosystem and offers powerful developer tools to supercharge vision AI applications that are designed to make the world’s most important spaces and operations safer and more efficient.

 The Italian company has developed and will enhance the world’s first system to combat the birdstrike phenomenon with AI enabled software and NVIDIA GPU- accelerated technologies for use as non-cooperative obstacle- detection system around airports, spaceports, vertiports and windfarms. THE EDGE COMPANY, founded in 2017 in Italy, created a system called Bird Concentration Monitoring System, or BCMS Ventur, to make conventional flight safer throught bird detection and recognition. The system soon evolved into an obstacle detector.

The Edge using NVIDIA A2 Tensor Core GPU’s, as well as the Jetson Orin edge AI platform for its systems. Joining the Metropolis program will makes technology even more effective.

The Edge Company has created the BCMS Ventur system, designed to monitor, recognize and if necessary remove birds from airports, making the most critical phases of flight safer: landing and takeoff.

The system is also already finding use in the next mobility sector: urban air mobility, transforming into an obstacle detector to recognize potentially dangerous obstacles for eVtols.

The importance of detecting birds is also occurring in other areas including, to give a few examples, the renewables sector especially in wind farms and in the oil sands sector for the protection of wild birds.
